APSTAR'S ORGANIC FARM—Apstar has in the pipeline a project to develop a farm for the cultivation of herbs and plants for food which will be organically grown for the local and export market.
Apstar has a hundred year lease on 1000 hectares of depleted tropical forest to restore. This devastated land is located within the Wurubon Forest Reserve near the town of Begoro in the Eastern Region. This project is also called Apstar Eco-site.
This is a project which is geared at the development of a herbal and plant medicine arboretum. It seeks to focus interest on the values of the properties of tropical forest ecology for medicinal research and to assist in the treatment of a variety of diseases. It also links up with domestic and international institutions with identical research and other academic interests, expanding the frontiers of knowledge beyond the walls of academic disciplines. Presently discussions are on the way to link our project with the Arboretum of Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine at Akwapim- Mampong. Other exploratory talks are on-going with institutions of higher learning and research.
APSTAR ECO-SITE: This is a project which is based on the entire afforestation programme of Apstar Company. It is an attempt to bring a tropical forest closer to those who seek research knowledge or use such resource for pleasure, getting back to the beauty of nature, or making use of it for therapeutic values; especially those who for one or the other reason have been advised or are under medical supervision to regain their health or improve on it considerably. Various trails take you through a tropical forest to feast your eyes on wild forest flowers, hear the birds sing feel some new plants, get to know them from the tutelage of experts or treat yourself to a loner walk, breathing in air well filtered by the forest, and get to eat meals prepared healthily with no chemical additives.

Besides the commercial value, it will help to recognize traditional and non-traditional herbs and plants which have been used for their nutritive and health values. The company is in the process of preparing its acquired farm land for this project which should take off in 2011.
